Creating Class-Based PowerShell Tools

In the developer world, classes are a normal part of the landscape. But it wasn’t until recently that PowerShell Pros could easily take advantage of classes. This feature was introduced in PowerShell 5.0. Microsoft’s primary goal was for IT Pros to use classes when developing DSC resources. But you can use classes outside of DSC in your PowerShell scripting and toolmaking. Veteran PowerShell MVP Jeff Hicks will provide a quick introduction to classes and then guide you through the process of incorporating a class into a PowerShell tool. You’ll quickly realize how easy it is to incorporate classes into your PowerShell toolmaking and begin to ponder the possibilities.

Jeff Hicks is an IT veteran with over 25 years of experience, much of it spent as an IT infrastructure consultant specializing in Microsoft server technologies with an emphasis in automation and efficiency. He is a multi-year recipient of the Microsoft MVP Award. He works today as an independent author, trainer and consultant. Jeff has taught and presented on PowerShell and the benefits of automation to IT Pros worldwide. Jeff has authored and co-authored many books, writes for numerous online sites and print publications, is a contributing editor at Petri.com, a Pluralsight author, and a frequent speaker at technology conferences and user groups. You can keep up with Jeff on Twitter (http://twitter.com/JeffHicks) and on his blog (https://jdhitsolutions.com/blog).
